Video | Dimmable Transformer

This is a demo for installing a dimmable transformer in a cabinet.  Use a licensed electrician for 110-volt home wiring projects.  You can view our spec sheet for the wiring diagram.  In addition, use a Lutron low voltage magnetic dimmer with our transformer.  See our spec sheet for a list of approved units.

How To: Install a Dimmable Transformer in a Cabinet

  • Mount the transformer in a cabinet, under a sink, or in a pantry.   The transformer needs room to breathe.   Never cover or mount your transformer in wall.
  • Since the transformer’s accessible, we are using an armored cable to go from the transformer to a switched outlet.  The armored cable is a 3/8-inch easy flex whip.  Cut the armored cable to the required length, re-install the end connectors and snap into a metal outlet cover.
  • Attach the armored cable to the switched outlet, knock out the hole in the transformer and install the other end of the armored cable.  Attach the wires to the transformer.  See the wiring diagram for color-coding.
  • Now wire the low voltage LED wiring to the transformer. The 12-volt positive side is red and the negative side is blue.  When wiring using Inspired LED’s cables, you will cut off one end of the connectors. Separate and strip the wires and look for the white lettering.  The white lettering is going to be the positive side of the cable.  Connect your Inspired LED cables to your transformer.  Make sure that your positive wire is going to the red cable and your negative wire is going to the blue cable.
  • To keep your output wires stable you can use a plastic connector that snaps into the side of your transformer.

This video demonstrates how to do a cabinet lighting install using 21 LED panels. Our value priced 21 LED panel lighting kits come with all of the accessories you need to install a plug-and-play system.

  • This was an outlet.  Convert it to a switch and put the outlet inside the cabinet using a multi-purpose tool.
  • Next, drill a 3/8th hole at the base of the cabinet. Plug in the power supply and feed the cord through the base of the cabinet.
  • Next, take the two light panels and use a four-inch interconnect cable to connect the two together.  You can use tape to find the right placement.
  • Now, plug in the power supply to the light and you’re all finished.  It’s just that easy.  Ta-da!

Marketing Assistant
Dynamic Marketing Assistant needed to help with various creative aspects of the business including website enhancements, social media marketing, creating videos, digital pictures, product copy, writing press releases and blogs. Sales Engineer
Join our Sales Engineering staff, an integral part of Inspired LED, providing customers with technical product knowledge and assistance with custom design projects. You will be a key technical point of contact for our customers, utilizing your excellent customer service skills and your ability to use simple drawing and design tools and communicate lighting design ideas. This position plays a key in assisting our design engineers in new product development. The ideal candidate may have some experience in electrical engineering, design, and/or sales. This is a full time position in Tempe, Arizona.

Senior Accountant/ Accounting Manager
Your expertise in Quickbooks and General Accounting will be well utilized in this very fast paced start-up environment. Experience (or very strong desire and ability to learn) in all aspects of payroll, tax accounting, budgets, and planning functions are most welcome. This position also supervises the accounts receivables and payables processes, as well as some purchasing functions. Proven track record on QB, troubleshooting, developing processes and procedures is essential. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to wear multiple hats in the organization and grow the business with us. This is a fulltime position in in Tempe, Arizona.

Assemblers
We have entry and mid-level positions available, part time and fulltime. All positions require self-starters with great attention to detail and accuracy, and motivation to produce high quality work in a fast paced environment. Experience is helpful, but will train the right individuals with a strong drive to achieve and likes to work with their hands. Potential for growth within the company. The assembler jobs are flexible part time and full time positions, preferably 3-5 full days per week (8-5pm), Mon-Sat. Please list specific hours available on application. Video | How To Reduce Glare on Granite Counters

Here at Inspired LED we occasionally get phone calls about lighting glare on granite and similar surfaces.  For now, we’ll call it the Dot Effect. Granite is like a mirror and whatever light you put above it, it will reflect, whether it be a LED strip or you use some type of diffuser.  Here we will discuss how you can eliminate this effect while keeping the same amount of light underneath your cabinets.

  • First, if you have cabinets with frames, use a tool such as the oscillating multi-tool saw attachment to cut about a quarter to a ½ inch notch.
  • Measure the length of your cabinets and subtract 1.5 inches from each side to enable the power supply or additional cables to be plugged into the end of the strips.
  • Place your flex strip on the lip of the cabinet facing the backsplash.  Use masking tape to temporarily place the flex strips before using the adhesive backing.
  • The ½ inch notch allows you to run one continuous strip along your cabinet lip and the strips are flexible enough to bend around corners.
  • Plug in your power supply to ensure perfect lighting placement.  If you like your flex strip placement, secure with the adhesive backing. Now, your LEDs are facing the backsplash.
  • Inspired LED’s lights will give you enough under cabinet lighting.  Plus it eliminates the glare, or dot effect, on granite and other similar surfaces.

How-To: Installing LED Flex Strips Under Cabinets with Frames

  • Measure cabinet. Make sure to subtract 1.5”from each end. So, I will need 2- 27” flex strips. Drill half inch holes through cabinet frame.
  • Feed the LED flex strip through the holes. Remember to be gentle with the connector.
  • Use masking tape to temporarily place the flex strips before using the adhesive backing. You can also place flex strips over the frame.
  • Using your interconnect cable, connect your flex strips. Clip down extra cable.
  • Plug your power supply into your flex strip and the switched outlet. If you like your flex strip placement, secure with adhesive backing.

Remember: This is meant to be a helpful guide and isn’t the only way to install flex strips!
